Distinguished pool owner

I just saw a piece of my mail addressed to "distinguished pool owner". I think that is excellent. Although the only thing I've done in that pool is push water on the cover toward the pump to drain.


Today I worked out in the 'cardio theatre'- running to a U2 concert. Bought bulk stuff at BJ's, watched Lost, and need to get ready for tomorrows big St. Patty's parade-- 100,000 people!

Jack of Fables 19
How can I not love this series where Hillary Page runs around in her "Hot Librarian" T shirt? A cracked Humpty Dumpty, Gary, Jack chased by zombies or "animated corpses with bad grammar".A chase across prohibition, the Great White North "freezing cold, hockey and weak beer" and onto New York, the south...finally to the Lost City of Gold!

Phillygirl let me borrow her Powers trades-- I've read #2 Roleplay "Roleplay is nearly perfect, combining a compelling story, drop-dead gorgeous artwork, and outstanding production values that put most other trade paperback collections to shame".
Oeming's constantly interesting panels and art with Bendis' story that winks all the 'reals' fans, with tragic results.

and #3 Little Deaths. When hot superhero Olympia dies, and the Powers team investigates. I especially like the double page spread of women from Olympia's black book-- every one of them a redhead! Nice taste. The ads, interviews, and kids coloring book- chock full of Powers content. I still have 3 more trades to read!

The Boys movie I say they have to roll back the old X rating to get 10% of the comic in this film.

A lot of television use

I meant to post this pic of me with some of my pull list. I have 8 unread comics from the last few weeks to read.

Despite the writers strike, I've been busy watching shows like Project Runway, and while I don't like reality shows, now I've been watching The Biggest Loser. Just watched the first Sarah Conner Chronicles- great to see River from Firefly. And new Daily Shows and Colberts have been keeping Tivo busier than I thought.

And, watching Dexter season 1 on DVD and Doctor Who Season 3. With Torchwood starting this Saturday, and Lost on the 31st, more TV.

Not to mention, The Giants in the Superbowl. Very torn here, because I like Tom Brady and the Patriots (shoreturtle roots Brady because he went to UMichigan) -- but I've been a mild Giants fan if I have to pick a team. The NEW JERSEY Giants-- I hate when they show midtown Manhattan as if that is right next to the Meadowlands, in Jersey! I like both Manning brothers too.

Plus, we got the Wii zapper so it's been Ghost Squad and Link's Crossbow Training. So that Family Room has been in use a lot; guess the cold weather has kept us in a lot.

Although I worked yesterday, had today off for MLK day and we went to see No Country for Old Men. Blood and guns and dusty Texas landscape.

Work has been very busy planning programs and writing annual reports and many patrons. I really deserve a damn promotion.

Hulu dance

Have not explored, but the new hulu.com post at EW shows "phenomenal quality" of the videos, and seeing a bit of the Buffy pilot, I agree...

The cover art of the Clockwork Orange meets the JLA was not appealing to me.

What I really didn't like is how the main 3 women- Wonder Woman, Black Canary and Vixen, were 'torture porned' on the 2 page spread. Sure, others of the JLA were in the background, but the triple size focus of those three, supposedly to cause outrage in Supes, but really to cause titilation in fanboys-- just gross to me.

The Boys 11
The Boys land in Russia and investigate Supes heads that are exploding. And drink vodka with the Love Sausage. Little Nina enjoys her flight- really. A special pizza is delivered. Typical Ennis stuff, ya know.

Packing and more packing. Up to episode 11 of Flight of the Conchords before the HBO freebie goes away. Finished Jane Eyre today- clearly ahead of her time with questions of self and independence and marriage and class.

Phillygirl should be happy that The Middleman was optioned for a TV show. If you haven't read the story of the spunky redhead artist and her involvement in a secret spy agency, go find it now!

Finally read some comics-
Buffy Season 8, issue 6
Brian K. Vaughan comic and dramatic voice comes to the Buffy series-- with Faith at the center of the story. I loved hearing Faith's tough girl quotes, and her dialogue with Giles. With 2000 slayers in the world, Gigi is a rich and protected slayer with a Warlock coaching her. Can Faith fake her way into society to get a chance to take her out??

The Boys issue 10
Raunchy as usual, but I haven't been laughing quite as much. The Boys are headed to Russia next, so maybe this storyline will grab me again.

Justice League wedding special
Ollies bachelor party, the league of injustice, the girls dancing on the town. I hated the butt shot cover of Wonder Woman. Otherwise, a workable issue with some villian and good guy fights...

And the last Y had a major development for one character right? These last issues have been so spread out, but the end is 2 issues away. I'm not sure how I feel about that Disturbia boy being Yorick for the film-- at least he seems intelligent.

Fangirl: Year two

There are two motives for reading a book: one, that you enjoy it; the other, that you can boast about it. (Bertrand Russell). Add comic before book, and you have the comic blogosphere!

Two years ago I started the Redhead Fangirl blog because I thought a female librarian comic reader was an unusual thing. I am better informed now, with all the great female fangirls whose blogs I've found (Heidi, Shelly) . Not to mention the wacky, the smart, the hysterical male comic fans (Mark, Rab,David) and store owner blogs (Mikester) I also read. Anyway, last year I listed a long list of my first year accomplishments- conventions, MidJersey Cons, Comic Blog Legion, artists and creators I met. I won't do that this year, but let me say that I really appreciate the people who read the blog- some even on a regular basis! Esp. those who comment, without that feedback I don't think that I'd keep it up.

Anyway, have you read the new The Boys 7 from Dynamite? Between finishing Preacher 1 and The Boys, I know Ennis is yet another twisted UK brain. Derick Robertson will be a Wizard Philly- another landmark because my first post was about my first comicon there two years ago.

Bad librarianship breaks the bad news to me that Boys is cancelled. They better find a home for the remainder of the series. I was just enjoying it's utter twisted look at the superhero community. As Mark says, Buggeration!
