Hi folks-
Not much blogging because per the usual I have winter sinus issues. And return trips to the dentist. Plus, I joined a brand new gym just over a week ago and had been going to classes and to workout. Now of course I don't feel like leaving the couch.

I didn't think the Oscars were as boring as some have said. My niece did Jennifer Hudson's makeup for the Oscars, so that was cool!

Snow day

Snow! Over 5 inches, letting me use the snow thrower we got 2 years ago for the first real time. It was my regular day off, so I cleaned some, watched Michael Clayton, played Wii.

Tomorrow shoreturtle will be diving in the ocean for the Polar Plunge!

DMZ 28 Soames
It seems that DMZ has been these standalone issues for a year. I miss a singular story of Matty's experience in the war and the DMZ. The stories are well written and drawn, and even poignant at times, but I just want to get back into the characters I know.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer 11 A Beautiful Sunset
Buffy's distance from others is highlighted here. I barely remembered the kiss that woke her, but apparently it was from Satsu, a slayer. I love her dialogue with Xander. Dawn is still a giant, but Xander threw a party to let off slayer steam. An unrevealed villian tries to "strip her of her greatest armor...her moral certainty" I can be the gushing fangirl, but reading the letters column to Joss-- those are some gushers!

Wolverine, Serkis, Akira

Twentieth Century Fox has added three more superheroes to "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," with Ryan Reynolds set to play Deadpool, "Friday Night Lights" regular Taylor Kitsch to star as Gambit and hip-hop artist will.i.am joining the cast as John Wraith.


Peter Jackson is set to reteam with his performance-capture muse Andy Serkis for DreamWorks' trilogy "Tintin," which is based on Georges Remi's Belgian comic-strip.

Warner Bros. will turn anime artist Katsuhiro Otomo's six-volume graphic novel "Akira" into two live-action feature films, the first of which is being fast tracked for release in summer 2009.

Preachin'

Thanks for phillygirl, who has shared the cost and experience of buying the 9 Preacher trades. Having finished Alamo, I can look back at a wild ride of religion and morals and depravity and jaw-dropping raunchiness at times. Garth Ennis style is nothing new to comic fans, but with Steve Dillons art and those intense Glenn Fabry covers, it holds as one of the best adult comic series written.

Oeming's art on this series is outstanding, different than Powers yet unique as that is. The coloring is also striking- dark greens and reds.

Y the Last Man 60
The deep post regarding this last issue I wanted to write didn't happen, but my quick thoughts-
I thought it was a melancholy end to the series. Yorick does escape from his straightjacket to see a world of women carrying on. But the clone Yoricks-- the saddest thing is that the one said "humor isn't my strong suit" (or something like that). His humor was the best thing about original Yorick, along with his heart.

The death of Ampersand was heartbreaking. Again, they never got him right in the cloned versions. Hero and Beth1 being a couple was a pleasant and happy surprise. Yorick spending his life with Beth2 and his daughter, but never really loving them, was not as happy.

Thank you Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra (who will now do art on the Doctor Who series! Yes!).

Big Pink

Hi kids! I don't know what has been keeping me from my comics, but I haven't read any for a few days. Well, one thing that is keeping me is the 600+ page Duma Key by Stephen King I'm reading (Big Pink is the house). I feel closer to King now that I saw him in person at the NY Comicon last year. He seems just like his characters- down to earth, a little raunchy, salty and more frail than you'd expect.

I did finish Season 3 of Doctor Who. From the girl who never saw one episode, I now am a big fan. Gordon posted this Season 4 teaser, with the return of the redhead companion, with Martha Jones and Rose too.

Goodbye to Sean McKeever on Birds of Prey Post Gail I've been losing steam with our BoP women. Superman dressed down the Oracle in a recent issue. I don't read Teen Titans, but would love to see a series McKeever will write that will reach the Spider-Man loves Mary Jane goodness.

Election coverage, a long work week, and playing Carnival Games on the Wii took up time too.

....Goodbye to some women letting history pass by while wringing their hands, because Hillary isn’t as “likeable” as they’ve been warned they must be, or because she didn’t leave him, couldn’t “control” him, kept her family together and raised a smart, sane daughter. (Think of the blame if Chelsea had ever acted in the alcoholic, neurotic manner of the Bush twins!)

Goodbye to some women pouting because she didn’t bake cookies or she did, sniping because she learned the rules and then bent or broke them. Grow the hell up. She is not running for Ms.-perfect-pure-queen-icon of the feminist movement. She’s running to be president of the United States....

As for the “woman thing”?

Me, I’m voting for Hillary not because she’s a woman—but because I am.

Jersey Giants

I thought the fourth quarter of the Super Bowl was quite the nail biter. I was leaning Giants-- Shoreturtle was rooting for Tom Brady's Patriots- but neither of us are diehard fans of these teams.

I'll never forget those guys swarming Eli and him getting away to still make a pass. And every time they showed Peyton in the booth cheering for his brother, that was great. You can't help love the underdog story and the little brother coming of age.

The only thing would have been to been to thank the state of New Jersey along with the city of New York. Most Giant fans are Jerseyans and the teams plays in the dang state!

The commercials were boring, at least not a sleazy as years past.
